5-FU and capecitabine toxicity can happen early and move quickly1,4,8,9,10,12,15

Severe or life-threatening symptoms of toxicity can start as early as Day 1 of chemotherapy. They may also begin several days after you’ve completed chemotherapy on Day 4. 

Talk about 5-FU and capecitabine toxicity. Remember to:

Be Prepared

Talk to your cancer care team.

Before you begin chemotherapy, talk with your cancer care team about 5-FU and capecitabine toxicity. If you’ve already started chemotherapy, call your cancer care team and ask to review the symptoms associated with toxicity.

Stay Alert

Self-monitor and ask your caregivers to help.

Stay alert during and after your chemotherapy and self-monitor for symptoms of toxicity. Ask your family and caregivers to help you monitor the symptoms of toxicity.

Don’t Hesitate

Speak up, even if you’re unsure.

Call and talk to your cancer care team as soon as you suspect you are experiencing symptoms of a toxic reaction, even if you’re unsure about symptoms and how you feel. It’s important to speak up so that your cancer care team can take action immediately.

Don’t Worry

Treatment is available.

5-FU and capecitabine toxicity is treatable. Vistogard® (uridine triacetate) is the first and only antidote for the treatment of 5-FU and capecitabine toxicity. In clinical trials, 96% of patients treated with Vistogard® survived 5-FU or capecitabine toxicity.1, 2, 19

Severe or life-threatening toxicity caused by 5-FU or capecitabine chemotherapy can be stopped with an antidote therapy called Vistogard® (uridine triacetate). With early detection and treatment with Vistogard®, 96% patients in clinical trials survived severe 5-FU or capecitabine toxicity.
